Visibility Monitoring

Track your AI Share of Voice across platforms and monitor competitive positioning.

AI Share of Voice

AI Share of Voice (SoV) measures how often your brand appears in AI-generated responses for queries relevant to your business. It is the core metric for understanding your presence in the agent ecosystem.

Share of Voice is calculated as the percentage of tracked queries where your brand is mentioned or recommended, relative to the total number of tracked queries. A higher SoV means agents are surfacing your product more frequently to users asking relevant questions.

Platform tracking

Inception Agents monitors your visibility across major AI platforms:

PlatformAgentTracking Method
ChatGPTGPTBotQuery simulation + crawl analysis
ClaudeClaudeBotQuery simulation + crawl analysis
PerplexityPerplexityBotQuery simulation + citation tracking
GeminiGoogle-ExtendedQuery simulation + crawl analysis
CopilotBingBotQuery simulation + crawl analysis
RufusAmazonBotCrawl analysis + product feed monitoring
GrokQuery simulation

Each platform is tracked independently. Your SoV on ChatGPT may differ significantly from your SoV on Perplexity — each agent has its own ranking logic and data sources.

Competitive benchmarking

Track how you rank against competitors in AI recommendations:

  • Head-to-head comparison — Select specific competitors and compare SoV across all tracked queries.
  • Category ranking — See your position within your industry category (e.g., “cloud hosting”, “project management”, “CRM software”).
  • Recommendation share — When agents recommend multiple products, see how often you appear and in what position.
  • Trend comparison — Track how your SoV changes relative to competitors over time.

Competitors are configured in Settings > Competitors. Add competitors by domain name or brand name. The platform identifies them automatically in agent responses.

Trend analysis

Track your visibility changes over time and correlate them with optimization efforts:

  • Time-series charts — Daily, weekly, and monthly SoV trends for each platform.
  • Event annotations — Optimization changes, content updates, and integration events are marked on the timeline.
  • Correlation indicators — Visual markers showing when SoV changes align with specific optimization actions.
  • Rolling averages — Smoothed trend lines to filter out daily noise and reveal true directional changes.

Trend data is retained for the lifetime of your account. Historical data is never deleted.

Category monitoring

Track your position within your industry category to understand broader market dynamics:

  • Category definition — Set your primary and secondary categories in Settings.
  • Category leaders — See which brands dominate AI recommendations in your category.
  • Emerging competitors — Get alerts when new brands begin appearing in your tracked queries.
  • Category query volume — Understand how often users ask agents about your category overall.

Dashboard overview

The Visibility tab in your dashboard displays:

  • Overall SoV — Your aggregate AI Share of Voice across all tracked platforms.
  • Platform breakdown — SoV per platform with trend indicators (up, down, stable).
  • Top queries — The tracked queries where you appear most and least frequently.
  • Competitor table — Side-by-side SoV comparison with configured competitors.
  • Category position — Your rank within your configured industry category.
  • Change summary — Notable visibility changes in the selected time period with likely contributing factors.

Key metrics

  • SoV % — Percentage of tracked queries where your brand appears.
  • Recommendation rate — Percentage of appearances where you are the primary recommendation (not just mentioned).
  • Sentiment score — How positively agents describe your product when they mention it.
  • Citation rate — How often agents link directly to your site (primarily relevant for Perplexity and similar citation-based platforms).

Interpreting the data

  • A rising SoV with stable recommendation rate means you are appearing more often but not necessarily being recommended more strongly — content optimization may help.
  • A stable SoV with rising recommendation rate means your optimization is improving the quality of your appearances.
  • A drop in SoV on a single platform usually indicates a change in that platform’s model or data pipeline, not necessarily a problem with your content.

Setting up monitoring

Configure your monitoring parameters in Settings > Visibility Monitoring:

  1. Tracked queries — Add the queries you want to monitor. These should be the questions your potential customers ask AI agents. Example: “best project management tool for startups”, “alternatives to Jira”, “cheapest cloud hosting”.
  2. Competitors — Add competitor brand names or domains. The platform identifies them in agent responses automatically.
  3. Categories — Set your primary industry category and optional secondary categories.
  4. Monitoring frequency — Choose how often queries are checked: daily (default), twice daily, or weekly.
  5. Platforms — Enable or disable specific platforms for monitoring. All are enabled by default.

Query monitoring begins within 24 hours of configuration. Initial baseline data is typically available within 48 hours.
